The Persecution Extends Overseas
The persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is not limited to Mainland China. Chinese agents form Consulates and Embassies all over the world have been harassing, threatening, and assaulting Falun Gong practitioners wherever they may be. Practitioners have been physically assaulted, burglarized, received threatening phone calls, had their phone lines tapped; one practitioner's car was fire-bombed.
Working through local Chinese community groups (many perhaps formed merely to spread propaganda about Falun Gong), the Chinese government has published numerous slanderous articles in overseas newspapers. One Canadian paper has been ordered by court to stop printing articles inciting hatred against Falun Gong. Unfortunately, many other publications around the world still print such articles.
Most disturbing to non-practitioners is the effect the Chinese Embassy has had upon the American Democratic process. Embassy officials have sent more than 300 letters to governors and mayors around the nation, urging them not to support Falun Gong in any way. Embassy staff has traveled to meet with elected officials to try to convince them to rescind proclamations of support. Sadly, many political leaders have caved in to this coercion. Thankfully, many others have stood firm against this assault upon American government and the American way of life.
The Chinese Government has applied similar pressure in other countries, preventing peaceful appeals in Iceland, Australia, Latvia, Russia, Hong Kong, and Germany.
These incidents have been documented in the U.S. and world-wide press. Below is a list of articles describing the Chinese government's attempts to spread the persecution of Falun Gong around the world.
